Integrative Simulation – Considering the Production Process

BASF's Integrative Simulation builds the production process of the plastic component into the calculation of its mechanical performance (see fig.). Using a numerical FE filling simulation as a basis, the anisotropic fiber orientations at each point of the component are transferred to the corresponding areas in the mechanical component (mapped). This is provided by a completely new numerical description of the material which takes the properties typical of the plastic including

  • Anisotropy
  • Non-linearity
  • Dependence on strain rate
  • Tension-compression asymmetry
  • Failure performance
  • Dependence on temperature

into account in the mechanical analysis.
