The new innovation factory will be built on the roof of an old air-raid shelter and, with an area of 1,000 m² on two floors, will offer plenty of space for ideas and new paths. The core of the concept is the linking of the real world of materials with the latest possibilities of digitalisation. "For customers, the Creation Center is a kind of app store equipped with our expertise. It is not a showroom, but offers open and creative ways of working together," explains Guiscard Glück, Vice President, New Markets and Products. The established designfabrik®, a unique facility in which BASF designers develop new products together with customers on the basis of material samples, will also move into the new Creation Center for this purpose. BASF's own simulation technology Ultrasim® for the virtual development of real solutions complements the portfolio of possibilities: The combination of computer-aided methods with the latest visualization technologies and 3D-manufactured sample components paves the way for a new dimension of cooperation.
One example of such a successful cooperation is the cooperation with the start-up company Holo-Light. An application was jointly developed with the help of which simulation results can be displayed three-dimensionally as holographic superimpositions. Using mixed-reality glasses, interactive 3D projections such as components or furniture can be shown in the immediate vicinity - making complex geometries easier to understand and material properties better recognized.
The holistic concept of the Creation Center will also be implemented at other company locations in Wyandotte (USA), Tokyo (Japan) and Shanghai (China).
