Steam cracker II, the largest individual plant at BASF's Ludwigshafen site, covers a surface area of about 64,000 square meters, which is about the size of 13 soccer fields. The steam cracker is also the heart of BASF's Verbund production strategy. This giant plant has been operating since 1981 and uses steam to crack naphtha at about 850°C [1,562°F]. Grazie agli impianti produttivi dello stabilimento di Zingonia (BG) BASF Poliuretani Italia produce anche polioli a base poliestere destinati prevalentemente all'industria calzaturiera.
In veste di agente di BASF SE, commercializza polioli ed isocianati per la produzione di particolari in poliuretano per tutti i settori industriali.
Commercializza inoltre elastomeri poliuretanici cellulari (Cellasto®) in particolare per l'industria automobilistica e poliuretani termoplastici in granuli (TPU), per stampaggio a iniezione, estrusione e soffiatura, destinati a manufatti di elevato contenuto tecnologico.
