Save space and money: Cellasto® was used for spring components as early as the 1960s. Its physical properties include low lateral expansion due to its high volume compressibility meeting the requirements of limited construction space as well as resistance to low temperature, heat and moisture gives components an extended life span.
The chassis is exposed to special stresses. It has to respond to different driving conditions and road surfaces such as potholes and constantly exercise a compensatory function. Cellasto® Jounce Bumpers enable relaxed and comfortable driving as they effectively eliminate energy peaks. The steel coil spring on the axle is located between an upper and a lower spring cup, which are inclined towards one another. This spring takes on the shape of an arc. The Cellasto® jounce bumper is subject to longitudinal and transverse distortion and load, which means that it has to be securely fixed to the chassis. This is achieved by means of a cup with snap-in springs. The advantage? This assembly unit, consisting of a spring aid and an interposed cup, reduces the amount of effort needed during the final assembly of the vehicle.
Cellasto® components are subject to only slight lateral expansion during deflection. That means Cellasto® jounce bumpers can be mounted inside the steel coil spring on the shock absorber piston rod, saving space. Even during total compression – maximum 80% of the original height of the spring without a load – there is no contact with the steel spring.
Mounted on the piston rod of the shock absorber, jounce bumpers also protect this area against soiling. In addition, bellows or a protective sleeve, secured to the jounce bumper, protect the piston rod and the shock absorber seal.
Cellasto® offers negligible lateral expansion—the flow holes are not closed—even if the jounce bumpers deflect to the maximum. Cellasto® jounce bumpers have sufficient emergency operation properties and can take over all of the suspension work should the pneumatic spring fail. A special Cellasto® recipe must be used to guarantee a large proportion of open cells, even in the case of high densities. This prevents the Cellasto® jounce bumpers from being compressed when air-pressure is introduced.
