BASF Partners YoungHwa Marine Tech (YHMT) for High Performance Cryogenic Thermal Insulation Solutions
South Korea - Global demand for cryogenic insulation solutions is surging due to continuous efforts to diversify the energy mix from coal to other resources, such as natural gas. BASF partners with YHMT with our polyurethane solutions for various cryogenic applications.
From 2022 – 2023, a cryogenic insulation system made with BASF’s Elastopor® Cryo & Elastospray® Cryo by YHMT has been applied in the VLGC (very large gas carrier) for renowned shipbuilder which was delivered to the leading shipowner sequentially.
During the roughest journey of cryogenic fuel transport, the high mechanical strength of Elastopor® Cryo and Elastopor® Cryo protects against the shock of waves and minimizes boil off losses.

In early 2022, BASF and YHMT signed a strategic collaboration agreement to develop polyurethane (PU) insulation solutions for cryogenic and shipbuilding industries. The agreement included using BASF products with Cryo series (Elastopir®, Elastopor®, Elastospray®, Elastocoat®) that are suitable for cryogenic applications, in LNG (-164℃)/ LEG/ LPG ship’s cargo tank, fuel tank & pipeline, offshore projects and LNG terminal projects.
YHMT & BASF collaborate to offer comprehensive cryogenic insulation system such as cargo tank (LNG, LEG, LCO2 & LPG), cryogenic fuel tank, pipe, offshore and terminal on land. We are committed to offer the best insulation solution for cryogenic industry.
