Sustainable solutions: How Basotect® EcoBalanced contributes to low-PCF sound absorption in buildings
For 50 years, Bosig GmbH has been a name for acoustic solutions for construction, industry, and trade. The company is now making another move toward climate responsibility. Bosig is the first BASF customer to fully convert its acoustic product line from Basotect®, BASF’s melamine resin foam, to Basotect® EcoBalanced, its counterpart with a reduced PCF.

The why behind the switch
Bosig’s decision to adopt Basotect® EcoBalanced was motivated by reducing its environmental impact while maintaining the performance its customers expect. The advantages of Basotect® EcoBalanced are:
- Up to 50% lower Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) compared to standard Basotect® grades.
- Manufactured using 100% green electricity.
- Biomass-balanced (BMB): Fossil-based raw materials are replaced with renewable feedstocks from organic waste and residual biomass at the beginning of production
The BASF BMB approach is certified under REDcert² and ISCC PLUS (2), ensuring transparency and credibility. For Bosig, this meant a real opportunity to further align its product strategy with its environmental values, offering sound absorption applications such as acoustic panels and sound absorbers with a reduced PCF.
Sustainability without disruption: the advantage of Basotect® EcoBalanced
One of the biggest advantages of Basotect® EcoBalanced is that it’s a drop-in solution. It performs just like the standard Basotect®, so manufacturers do not need to change their production processes or invest in new equipment. The transition is seamless – but the impact is substantial.
Measure, reduce, lead: data-driven sustainability with Basotect® EcoBalanced
BASF introduces Basotect® EcoBalanced as a step forward in sustainable sound absorption materials. As the first company to provide transparent emission data for melamine resin foam, BASF enables customers to assess and reduce the carbon footprint of their products more accurately.
This level of transparency is key for the construction industry, which plays an important role in global emission reduction efforts.
Compared to other melamine resin foams on the market, e.g., Basotect® G+ EcoBalanced shows a PCF which is more than two-thirds lower (at a density of 9kg/m³). In comparison to alternative insulation materials like PET fleece (30kg/m³) it achieves considerably lower emissions.
