Energy
VALERAS™ solutions can contribute to the reduction of energy needed in various applications through optimized operations. For example, Irganox® 1425 allows shorter process cycles in some applications, and thus reduces the overall customer energy consumption.
Cost Savings
Plastic Additives delivers solutions to our customers that help realize cost savings, while also ensuring economic success for our business. While not always the least expensive, in many cases our additives enable the customer to have lower overall loadings, reduce process down time, and reduce machine cleaning. Each of these benefits also leads ultimately to saved cost to our customer.
Waste Reduction
Plastic waste is inevitable in today’s linear economy, but BASF is committed to reducing plastic waste across the value chain. Plastic Additive solutions support this commitment by improving plastic processing, enabling the incorporation of scrap materials, and preventing premature disposal of final plastic applications.
Durability
Plastic Additives are the key to improving the durability of plastics. The longer it can last, the better: “Extend the loop” solutions are the perfect complement to our “Close the loop” solutions for mechanical recycling.
Renewables
As the plastic industry shifts to include and develop more renewable plastics, the VALERAS™ additive portfolio will also expand. It starts with incorporating plant-based raw materials, such as with Irgastab® FS 042 Veg, and will continue to grow as we respond to the needs of our customers.
Emissions and Climate Change
At Plastic Additives, we provide solutions that directly reduce emissions from foams and indirectly by helping make vehicles lighter for reduced exhaust.
Health and Safety
Since their creation, plastics have helped make our daily lives safer. Our plastic additives also contribute to improved health and safety, as is the case for Flamestab® NOR® 116 FF. This solution ensures plastics are resistant to fire but also does so without the use of harmful elements which can be found in other flame retardants. This means safer plastics and handling for the consumer and the worker.
Resource Efficiency
Plastic Additives in the VALERAS™ portfolio can help to utilize resources in the most efficient way - for example through more effective products that enable lower loadings - and by doing so contribute to preservation of currently available resources for future generations.
Circular Economy
Plastics have an exceptional role to play in creating a circular economy. This valuable material can be used, re-used, and eventually recycled.
The solutions in the VALERAS® portfolio are designed to keep plastic in the loop by increasing durability of the material with light stabilizers such as those in our Tinuvin product line.
We also develop additive solutions to enable plastics to be more easily recycled and used in new applications.

Renewable Raw Materials
Renewable raw materials contribute to a sustainable future by reducing CO2 emissions through their climate-neutral balance and by replacing fossil-fuel based raw materials.
The VALERAS® portfolio also contains a number of products, such as Irganox® 1076 BMBcert™, that are derived from sustainably sourced renewable feedstock, which also reduces Product Carbon Footprint (PCF).

While BASF is continuously working to achieve net zero CO2 emissions by 2050, more and more customers are making environmentally conscious purchasing decisions.
BASF Plastic Additives is committed to calculating and sharing the carbon footprint of our products with our customers. This information allows the entire industry to reduce greenhouse case emissions along the value chain.
