Radar for autonomous driving

With Ultradur® RX, BASF has now developed a modified polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) specifically for radar sensor applications in vehicles. The different product grades of the new Ultradur® RX series are materials designed for absorption and reduction of interference radiation in the range of 76 to 81 GHz. Thanks to its good resistance against media such as splash water, oils or salt, Ultradur® offers an exceptional protection for sensor housings. In addition, the new material shields the sensitive electronics in the housings against disturbing electromagnetic waves from other vehicles.

The materials that are used here are Ultradur^® HR LT, Ultradur^® LUX and Ultradur^® RX. The material benefits that come with these products include hydrolysis resistance, suitability for laser welding, good dimensional stability and EMI shielding properties for radars. Additionally, the materials are orange color stable after aging test 1080h 140°C as well as radar transparent and radar absorbing.

Fuel cell stack by Nuvera with parts made of Ultramid^® Advanced (PPA)

The American manufacturer of heavy-duty, zero-emission engines Nuvera Fuel Cells is now using BASF’s polyphthalamide (PPA) Ultramid^® Advanced N to manufacture several components in its latest generation of 45 kW fuel cell engines. The fuel cell engines will be integrated into transit buses and delivery vehicles in China over the next three years. The components, such as manifold, thermostat housing, check valve, ejector as well as exhaust pipes, require stable material properties across varying temperatures. Ultramid^®Advanced N3HG6 shows excellent thermal and chemical resistance, outstanding mechanical properties, high impact strength, good dimensional stability and a stable long-term performance.

Hydrogen tank inner liner

The material used here is Ultramid^®. Benefits of this material are its chemical resistance, its dimensional stability and its leak tightness vs. H2.

Screw-on oil filter

The screw-on oil filter is made from Ultramid^® Structure A3WG12 LFX. The material meets the requirement for high stiffness and high impact strength in a wide range of temperatures as well as a working temperature up to 160°C. The high creeping resistance of A3WG12 LFX makes the screw-on concept of oil filters possible and also saves costs for the customer by reducing the assembling process.

Foglamp reflector

For foglamp reflectors we offer Ultrason^® E2010 BK Q31. It does not only provide high dimensional stability and thermal stability up to 200°C, it also enables direct metallization. Ultrason^® E2010 BK Q31 is an unreinforced, medium viscosity standard injection molding grade with demolding optimized. Furthermore, the grade in black color is provided by mixing of black masterbatch.
