BASF through a collaborative effort between its customers such as Ergon is developing products that offer “perfect ergonomics” for cyclists through the use of its innovative material — Infinergy. The material is playing a major role in revolutionizing the bicycle saddle.

Der ST Core Ultra: revolutionäre TwinShell-Technologie mit ergonomischem Kern. Zwei Schalen arbeiten isoliert voneinander in einer Sandwich-Konstruktion, schwimmend gelagert durch einen Hochleistungs-Elastomerdämpfer aus Infinergy®, einem von BASF entwickelten expandierten thermoplastischen Polyurethan, kurz E-TPU. Die untere Tragschale übernimmt die Funktion der Lastaufnahme, während die obere, flexible Sitzschale das Sitzpolster aufnimmt. Der Kern aus Infinergy® sorgt für direktes Ansprechverhalten bei geringem Gewicht. Optimale Druckverteilung auf den Sitzknochen, effiziente Tret-Ergonomie, hervorragende Vibrationsdämpfung und aktive Rückenschonung erstmals konsequent miteinander vereint.The ST Core Ultra: revolutionary TwinShell technology, with an ergonomic core. Two shells function in isolation from each other in a sandwich construction, held in a floating arrangement by a high-performance elastomer damper made of Infinergy®, an expanded thermoplastic polyurethane (E-TPU) developed by BASF. The lower, supporting shell performs a load-bearing function while the upper, flexible seat shell supports the padding. The core made of BASF’s Infinergy® ensures direct response at low weight. Optimized pressure distribution across the sit bones, efficient pedaling ergonomics, excellent vibration damping and active back protection systematically combined for the first time.

In 2017, Ergon made a breakthrough in bicycle saddle technology with their new product built around Infinergy®: the ST Core Ultra.

Using Infinergy® as a damper to create a floating dual-shell seat, both ground impact and body pressure are absorbed and isolated through the saddle. This optimises comfort and back protection for pro cyclists, even on long rides in extreme heator cold.
