On 29 August 2024, the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (Central Agency Packaging Register – ZSVR) published the new minimum standard for recycling-friendly packaging. It now also recognizes barrier films that include not only polyethylene (PE) and polyamide (PA) but also ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) for high oxygen barrier as recyclable. These film structures are commonly used for sausage, cheese and meat packaging. For the first time, adhesive-laminated PE/PA film structures are now also recognized as recyclable in the minimum standard

The PACIFIC app, a solution for the exchange of Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data of BASF products, is now available in the Catena-X Automotive Ecosystem in the Cofinity-X App Store. BASF customers can from now on register for the application. PACIFIC is a joint development of BASF and CircularTree. 

An impact absorber made of the polyamide particle foam Ultramid^® Expand jointly developed by BASF and Mercedes-Benz for the Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX technology program has won 2^nd place in the "Enabler Technology" category at the SPE Automotive Awards 2024. SPE stands for Society of Plastics Engineers (Internationale Gesellschaft für Kunststofftechnik e.V.), which honors outstanding developments in plastic parts for vehicle engineering every year.

Powered by unique and ultra-accurate simulation methods, extensive material data, and easy-to-access web services, the computer-aided engineering (CAE) competence Ultrasim^® creates an unparalleled offering for BASF customers. As a pioneer in the field, BASF introduced the first integrative simulation capability for plastics in 1999, laying the foundation for what is today a strong global network of CAE simulation services. 

Siemens Smart Infrastructure and BASF have today announced the first electrical safety product to include components made from biomass-balanced plastics. Used across industrial and infrastructure applications, Siemens SIRIUS 3RV2 circuit breaker is now being manufactured using Ultramid^® BMBcert^TM and Ultradur^® BMBcert^TM from BASF, where fossil feedstock at the beginning of the value chain is replaced by biomethane derived from renewable sources such as agricultural waste. Both materials offer the same quality and performance as conventional plastics. The material changeover in the SIRIUS 3RV2 circuit breaker production will reduce the emission of carbon dioxide equivalents by ~270 tons per year¹. Customers using these products contribute to a circular economy towards a more sustainable future.

BASF launches a new ether-based thermoplastic polyurethane: Elastollan^® 1400. The new TPU series provides exceptional hydrolysis and microbe resistance and combines stable processing behavior with good compression set properties. The material delivers outstanding burst pressure performance and can be processed by extrusion and injection molding. The aging stability of Elastollan^® 1400 ensures long-lasting performance – a versatile option for a wide range of applications.

With Ultramid^® LowPCF (reduced CO₂ footprint/“Product Carbon Footprint”, PCF**) and Ultramid^® ZeroPCF* (CO₂ footprint of net zero greenhouse gas emissions), BASF launches two new product variants within its polyamide value chain in Europe. Greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced when compared to conventional products. BASF is offering its Ultramid^® B brand and the precursor caprolactam as ZeroPCF and LowPCF variants, as well as Ultramid^® C as LowPCF option.
