Connectors
Plug connectors are used for detachable connections of electrical lines (e.g. for service purposes). Globally, there are numerous standards for these parts of connection technology, and materials for plugs and plug connectors are subject to strict testing as well.
A common example is "RAST" plug connections that are used, for example, in household appliances. "RAST" stands for the raster-connection plug method; the number code indicates the distance between the contact centers in millimeters as well as the number pins inside. Generally, standards and requirements vary according to the industry in which these plugs and plug connectors are used.
Household Appliances
Engineering plastics by BASF are used for plug connectors in household appliances. The highly specialized grades of flame-retardant Ultramid® and Ultradur® brands are particularly well-suited for this purpose.
Photovoltaic Installations
BASF includes special versions of the engineering plastic Ultramid® (polyamide) for plug connectors in its portfolio. Plug connectors are also employed in electronics, e.g. for electronic boards (PCB = Printed Circuit Boards).

Plug Connectors made of Elastollan®
Aside from engineering plastics solutions, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) by BASF is used for plugs, round connectors, and valve connectors. Thanks to its unique variety of properties, Elastollan® is the preferred material for these products. TPU plug connectors ensure a good sealing function across a wide temperature range, especially if contact holder, cable sheathing, and injection molding are made of TPU material.
