For a safer ride: PU battery lids

Revolutionizing battery safety with STM technology

BASF and ElringKlinger have embarked on a collaboration project to enhance the battery safety in electric vehicles using STM (Structural Thermal Management) technology.

ElringKlinger is developing battery lids made of fibre reinforced PU, Elastoflex®. The STM technology helps prevent thermal runaways, which means to prevent fire spreading from the battery to the vehicle interior.

The new product ElroForm TP ECO combines an inorganic core layer with polyurethane-based STM layers and substitutes the hitherto used, ethically critical material Mica.

With ElroForm TP ECO, supported by BASF’s chemistry and STM expertise, ElringKlinger brings an alternative, innovative technology to the market.

What is ElroForm TP ECO: this is 2 mm thin plate out of PU, glass & carbon fiber with rigid characteristics. Most important is the flame and temperature behavior which has been already tested successfully.
