We recycle PU in appliances!

BASF introduces a new circular concept to enable the recycling of PU insulation material in the Appliance industry. To return polyurethane to the same material cycle, BASF is developing an efficient chemical recycling process jointly with its partners KraussMaffei and Rampf. In a stable, continuous industrial depolymerisation process, recycled polyols are produced, which can be used to manufacture new PU rigid foams as insulation material in refrigerators. By using post-consumer waste from end-of-life refrigerators as feedstock, the consumption of fossil resources can be significantly reduced. Liebherr, the leading innovative refrigeration producer and BASF have partnered in a pilot to produce the first fridge containing recycled PU-foam.
