Breaktor by Eaton: unique circuit protection for electric cars with BASF’s PPA Ultramid® Advanced
In electric vehicles, circuit breakers are key for safely and reliably protecting people and components during all charging situations including short circuits and overloads. Eaton’s unique Breaktor® circuit protection technology unites circuit breaker and contactor in one part.
During charging, Breaktor® can reach very high temperatures for nearly an hour. Here BASF’s PPA Ultramid® Advanced T2340G6 shows its strengths: As housing of the interior chamber, it combines excellent mechanical with dielectric strength at high temperatures. The PA6T/66 with a non-halogenated flame-retardant meets industry needs for halide-free E&E parts.
In the close cooperation between Eaton and BASF, it was possible to harmonize part design with material performance by BASF’s simulation expertise.
